When man sculpts his own body as false prophets of publicity, when digital manipulation crosses its borders and is translated into beauty treatments and plastic surgery, the real world mixes with virtual world and the body ceases to exist as a physical entity to move to an imaginary sphere and become a thought form more. In this simulated society which has been generated by the media, my inquisitiveness revolves around postphotography as producer of a second reality, of an artificial universe where veracity and fiction are merged to mislead a viewer who is accustomed and relaxed in front of the verisimilitude of the images that are presented.

This project, which wants to show that nothing is what it seems to be, aims to cause a reflection in the viewer about the visual system and the media that control them. It is for that reason that has the need to invade media and to appropriate of advertising panels and billboards. More than being an art object, hopes to be a message to project.

EURYTHMY

Eurythmy is a series of photographs of products in which the industrial object being commercialized is the human species itself.

A critique of the ambition present in mass societies to neutralize the individual, homogenize his thoughts, standardize the species and establish a world without differences, where people become subjects who consume and who are consumed at the same time.

Eurythmy is an attempt to construct portraits with no apparent interpretation, neutralize any sign of character and drown the soul of the face.

Above all, it praises the beauty of all that is natural, impeccable body language, particular characteristics and small personal differences.

ADAM AND EVE XX1

Adam and Eve XX1 is a continuation of the reflection presented in Eurythmy, but in spite of praising external natural beauty of every artifice, this series emphasises the unreal nature of the present-day human body.

Out of the never-ending bombardment of images which builds our mind and ideals, emerges the obsession for a body similar to those presented to us, which are no more than an aesthetic hybrid, a pretence of the idea of beauty. Spectators translate the results of photo-editing programmes in advertising into beauty treatments, hours in the gym, plastic surgery, diets, anabolic steroids, etc.

The individual distances himself from what is real in order to become a doll made up of interchangeable pieces manipulated by the invisible strings of mass societies. Globalization, consumer habits and modern beliefs, in stark contrast to those of classical culture, leave reason to one side, suppress any kind of personal thought and train us to move in one single direction: towards the worship of the human body. These images show the recreation of the body, a recipient of desire and pleasure, basic premises of capitalism.

COVER

A photographic series that explores the boundaries of identity, building a passive subject, hybrid body of the liquid society and political correctness. Having as a premise the social symbolic value that the hair has acquired throughout history, these photographs destroy the formal essential of portrait from a melodramatic point addressing issues such as sex, consumption, visual culture, oppression, etc.

In these images, unlike the conventional practices, the spectator doesn’t find the look of the model. Although the face of the portrait subject has been deleted, his gaze remains more present than ever. And since the absence of gaze drags a centralizing axis greater than the own reality of the portrait, observation becomes intimidating. The public transcends of their usual incorporeal state to the reflection of their own physicality in order to understand the importance of the visual sense.

SOFTWARE, BODY AND IMAGE

Software, body and image is a research that explores, from the movement of the body, the new possibilities that offer the softwares of real-time interaction.

In the current liquid society in which we live, the body ceases to exist as a physical entity and is transformed into a digital stream of information in constant movement that transits, flows and connects with the interface.  For this reason, the interest of a project which investigates the possibilities of the movement that creates this new digitizing body was born. The subject that I am interested to work dwells within the technological thinking in which the data flow saves whole relation with the movement, hence the importance of this as a central axis, generator and transmitter of the interface.

Due to the technical and sound characteristics of the project, in the first stages of the research with the programs, I have had the collaboration of Jaime Munárriz Ortiz, artist, musician, DJ and pedagogue with long experience in the area of electronic and experimental rock.

With the material collected, within the field of software for real-time interaction on the modulation of sound and image in correspondence with the movement of the body, we have released several videos.

In addition to audiovisual documentation generated in the process, the project covers the gestation of a future performance.
